Academic Organization

Haskell Life Skills works with you and your student to manage your daily and weekly commitments along with all of the surprises that life brings each week.

Over the past few years the way students learn, complete assignments, and engage with peers & teachers has shifted online across various different platforms.

As parents, we work tirelessly to help our children reach their potential while trying to navigate the apps, e-learning sites, and varying methods of assigning schoolwork that seems to differ from teacher to teacher, and school to school.

This is daunting (and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise)!

We’re here to help your student navigate their academic journey.

Academic Scheduling

How does your child plan for homework, assignments, and long term projects? How can we avoid the last minute and late night stress from procrastination? How can your child determine how long an assignment will take?

These are all questions that are presented to our children each day. Most children - and some adults! - do not have the skills necessary to create an organized plan of action and follow through. These are skills that we address with our clients.

Time Management

Time is precious and it seems as though there is never enough of it. Parents are busy working from home, the office or on a hybrid work schedule, we are trying to keep track of everyone’s schedule, cooking meals, cleaning, organizing, and making sure our kids are being productive and completing assignments, as well as fulfilling the extracurricular commitments they’ve made.

We strive to eliminate the stress and pressure of making sure your children are doing their schoolwork, as well as reduce the tantrums and arguments that come from being overwhelmed and exhausted from their school day. We will work with your child to teach them how to assess time frames for assignments, structure their day to reduce stress, and ensure that long term projects are not left until the last minute.

Academic Organizational Skills

Students now have both online assignments and hardcopy worksheets to contend with. Keeping track of multiple assignments listed in various locations online, papers that have been handed out in class, and knowing which assignment is due when (and where!) can make your head spin! Online and hardcopy assignments has affected parents’ abilities to ensure their child is keeping up with their work, handing their assignments in (click Submit!), and not falling behind.

We work with your child to teach them the skills they need to make sense of and handle the expectations placed upon them.

Study Skills

There are many different ways to study, and not every method will work for every child. Everyone learns differently, and so what worked for you as a student may not work for your child. We are able to assess your child’s strengths and weaknesses within different parameters to determine the most effective study methods for their specific needs.

Once we determine the most effective methods for your child to study, we then work with them to create Study Breakdowns that detail the study process from beginning to end. How many study sessions they will need to complete for each specific assignment, how long each study session will last, and most importantly, what methods of studying will be used during each one of those sessions are key factors for success in school. We teach your child how to determine all of these aspects so that they are able to adapt these skills independently.

Task Prioritizing Skills

Life happens! We can plan and schedule our days, but there will always be surprises and hiccups along the way that we have to be ready for. Flexibility and understanding how to prioritize assignments is essential in maintaining everyone’s sanity, accomplishing our daily goals, and keeping stress at a minimum.
